Omron Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-780 - Great ValueAccording to retail sales figures, the Omron Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-780 is the best selling Home BP monitor ever made. Last year I reviewed this very same monitor, and though I was quite pleased with its features and performance, its price excluded it from contention as a best value. Well, things are considerably different now; and the HEM-780 is my definite choice for the award of ‘Overall Best Value’ and ‘Bed Pans to the Sky’ recipient as the best monitor in its price range. What changed my mind? Well, the last time I reviewed this monitor; it just barely made the cut and came in at a standard retail price of $99.99. At that time, there were other monitors slightly lower in price that offered equal or comparable performance; therefore, I considered those models an overall better value than the Omron HEM-780 monitor. A lot of things have changed in the last year, and the HEM-780 is now one of the less expensive units from the group of monitors, which we reviewed last year. The HEM-780’s current price of between $65 and $80 (varies according to the package, bundle etc.) make it the only realistic choice for the best value in this price range. For those of you who might have missed my last review of the Omron Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-780, I will briefly summarize some of my favorite features of this incredibly feature-filled blood pressure monitor. I won’t be providing in depth details of the units features and capabilities, of this excellent monitor. I will simply tell you which ones you really need to know about and consider. Without a doubt, the most important feature of the HEM-780 monitor is its use of Morning Hypertension detection technology. The potential importance of this feature cannot be adequately described. Commonly referred to as Morning Hypertension, unusually elevate blood pressure levels in the morning are considered risk signals for a potential heart attack or stroke. Early detection of this kind of condition could very well save your life. Some of you have heard me refer to this technology in the past, and know how vitally useful I believe it can be. Another very useful feature is the large comfit cuff the Omron HEM-780 home blood pressure monitor uses. The large, adaptable cuff enables even large men or women to comfortably use it. A big man myself, I find the fact that this cuff fits easily another significant benefit. Also, I like the fact the cuff is very stiff, and not one of those plushy, mushy type things. Stiffer cuffs allow for much more accurate readings than do the soft ones. This unit is built like a tank, and designed to last a long, long time. The LED Display is very large and easy to read. If this machine would have used a tad bit longer tube, from the cuff to the machine, then this monitor would be perfect. Nonetheless, home blood pressure monitors in this price range don’t get any better than this one. It is well made, accurate and dependable. Therefore, let all others be made aware that the new king of sub $100 BP monitors is the Omron Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-780 .
