Pace of the Heart

The heart is certainly the most important part of our bodies. Without the heart to function well, there is nothing which would pump the blood into every part of our body so that everything is fed and function. But we cannot avoid the fact that there is a chance that our hearts may need some extra help to do its job. There are people who suffer from having some problem with their native pacemaker or that something is blocking the heart’s electrical conduction system which is known as sinus node dysfunction. Either way, this would result in an irregular heart beat.

If the heart beat of a person is irregular, then the person would eventually suffer from shortness of breath, fatigue, palpitations, dizziness and fainting. Complications of this could lead to angina, stroke and sudden cardiac death among others. It is actually a rare occurrence but it is something to take seriously as it can lead to total heart failure. Fortunately, there is a treatment for this.
The medical treatment for sinus node dysfunction would include using an artificially created pacemaker which is a small device measuring at a length of just about 4 centimetres is surgically placed into the skin of the patient just below the left side of the collarbone. This device would send electronic signals to the heart causing its muscles to contract at proper and regular intervals. A pacemaker is important to keep the heart functioning properly and with the help of this device, this ensures the health of a person’s heart.
