Each and every one of us has his or her own native pacemaker in our bodies. Now, what this does is that it ensures that our hearts beat normally and the heart functions well. However, there are times and there are people who have problems with these which results in their heart beats to become either too fast or too slow. In some cases, their heart beats even become irregular; in any case the bottom line is that this can cause major discomfort and problems for the person. To rectify this problem, doctors would turn to a medical device known as the artificial pacemaker.

This medical device is designed for the sole purpose of maintaining a person’s heart beat. This is done by first placing the medical device into the patient through a simple surgical process. The doctor makes in incision into the skin of the patient on the left shoulder to place the medical device inside. Once inside the patient, the medical device can then start sending electronic pulses to the heart muscles of the patient to make them contract on time. This regulates the heart beat and maintains it that way. The only down side of having an artificial pacemaker are some discomforts and having to avoid playing contact sport and doing heavy physical activity. Alongside that, the patient would also need to visit his or her doctor on a regular basis; usually at intervals of six months. But of course, this is just a small price to pay for one’s health which we all know is priceless.
